Laser engraved equipment tags and nameplates
Laminated plastic nameplates for HVAC, mechanical and electrical equipment, tagged to match the drawings and the spec.
Equipment tags and engraved nameplates identify pumps, air handlers, motors, junction boxes and machines with the tag number from the drawings, such as AHU-2 or P-101. Laser engraved plastic nameplates are the standard choice for mechanical and electrical turnover packages.

Tagging to the drawings (RTU-1, AHU-2, P-3)
The tag should use the exact equipment designation from the drawings and schedules. That is how the owner's maintenance staff, the commissioning agent and the next contractor find it. A second line can say what it serves (SERVES 2ND FLOOR EAST) and a third where it is fed from (FED FROM 2H1-22).
Sizes and fastening options
Large equipment usually gets a 2 x 6 inch or 3 x 8 inch nameplate so it can be read from the floor. Smaller pumps and fans take 1 x 3 or 1 x 4 inches. Use mechanical fasteners (screws or rivets) on outdoor units, insulated surfaces and anything that vibrates. Adhesive is fine on clean, flat indoor surfaces. Holes and adhesive are both included in the price.
Spec section language
Most commercial specs have an identification section, such as 23 05 53 for HVAC piping and equipment or 26 05 53 for electrical systems. A typical line reads: "Equipment nameplates: engraved laminated plastic, 1/8 inch thick, white letters on black background, minimum 1/2 inch letter height, fastened with stainless steel screws." That is exactly what we make. Send us the spec section and we will match the thickness, colors, letter height and fasteners it calls for.
Closeout and turnover packages
Missing or wrong nameplates are a common punch list item at closeout. Ordering the whole equipment schedule at once, checked against one proof, saves a second trip. Keep the spreadsheet with your closeout documents so the owner has a record of every tag.
Common questions
What goes on a junction box nameplate?
Usually the box ID and the circuits inside, such as JB-12 or LP-2 CKTS 4, 6, 8. A 1 x 3 inch laser engraved plate with adhesive fits most box covers.
What is a laminated plastic nameplate in specs?
It is an engraved two-layer plastic tag, often called a lamacoid or engraved nameplate. Engraving through the top color exposes the core color to form the letters. It is the standard nameplate in most commercial identification spec sections.
What size should equipment tags be?
Follow the spec. Without one, 2 x 6 inches with 1/2 inch letters works for large equipment read from the floor, and 1 x 3 inches for small pumps and fans read up close.
Can you match the spec colors?
Yes. Tell us the colors and letter height the spec calls for and we will match them. White on black is the most common default.
